teamboat was founded in 2002. the exact date is not known, but the formation of teamboat took place during a warmup
session before rugby training began. it all began when roland played a game of random team on battle.net
before training. relating the experience of the game to daniel, roland talked about him having a
horrible partner who referred to the unit "steam tanks" as "steamboats". daniel then had a brainwave, and
the two of them decided to create accounts called teamboat1 and teamboat2: the name thought up due to daniel's fascination with food and warcraft.
guanghao joined shortly after the formation of teamboat, due to the need for intelligence to balance out the
gluttony in daniel and good looks in roland. together, the trio have accomplished feats such as making
seoul garden move out of j8. armed with their passion for food and good recommendations from guanghao,
teamboat strives to test (and at the same time, destroy) all buffets in singapore.
currently, the strength of teamboat stands at 3: daniel, guanghao and roland. there is, at the
moment, only 1 associate member: clement.

dumb insects
ok this is quite amusing and disgusting.
so i was just playing my dota match happily, when i sensed a sudden movement through my peripheral vision. then, i felt something touch my hair, so i got quite paranoid. i raised my left hand and grabbed at that thing in my hair and flung it away.
ggxx.
the thing emitted this really BAD SMELL which is now in my hair. bencai says its me, but i assure you guys its not. i can't seem to remove it completely even though i took a shower after the incident. i think its a beetle. those faggot ones that fly into your room and sit there like a rock.
ugh it stinks.
i hope i didn't kill it though. hopefully the toss threw it out of the window... :/
on a side note, we beat sa 22-10 today. hi passerby!
this play focuses on the lives of three groups of people, all of whom are searching for something better in their life. alicia wants to get away from her nagging mom, who she feels is intruding in her personal life, to a private apartment with her boyfriend raymond. liyana, who is an ambitious woman raising her nephew, wishes to upgrade from a hdb flat to a condominium. iris, who has strained relationships with both her husband and daughter, wishes to move to australia in sync with her husband's posting in australia, so as to get a chance to start anew. all these different stories intertwine, with alicia wanting to buy liyana's hdb flat, and liyana wanting to buy iris's condominium.
we do see a portrayal of modern society in these three groups of people. alicia represents the angsty teenager, who feels that her mom is an intrusive and good for nothing obstacle blocking her goals and pursuits. liyana represents the superficial, materialistic person in the society, constantly in pursuit of symbols of wealth and social standing. iris represents the stereotypical insecure mother, who has unknowingly dismantled her relationships with her husband and daughter, and is trying desperately to save the family.
yet, there is an opposing force to the wave of change, found in the likes of azfah (i don't know if i got his name right) and jacqueline. azfah, who is liyana's nephew, doesn't want the hdb flat to be sold as it belonged to his parents. jacqueline, who enjoys her popularity and 'cool' factor, does not want to shift to australia in fear of losing her built up friendship. again, they represent elements in society, azfah reflecting the teenager who aspires to make it as a big singer. jacqueline portrays the cool and happening girl, who goes for parties and has a wide social circle.
in the case of liyana and azfah, they represent the stereotypical situation between son and mother (in this case, aunt). the son aspires to be what he feels his talents lie in, whereas his mother believes in a much more "safer" route to success: by doing well for his examinations and getting a good degree. this conflict between these characters is amplified by their differing attitudes: liyana wants change (a better house) while azfah prefers constancy. iris, jacqueline and reuben's character (can't remember the name :X) reflects the superficial "family", where it is more 'each on your own'. again, the family has conflicting issues: the mom wants out to australia while the daughter wants to stay to preserve her fame and popularity.
the relentless quest for change in order to achieve something better results in the arrival of the evil agent 5, the property agent who cunningly manipulates these three families into selling away their properties. on one level, it might seem as a humourous take on property agents: that they are swindling and manipulative on the inside. on the other hand, agent 5 could be seen to embody their desire for change. alicia, who is in search of a place away from her naggy mother, falls under the spell cast by agent 5 and is influenced to buy the apartment because it is apparently very "private". liyana is convinced to buy the condominium from agent 5's scheme to let her view the condominium's facilities. iris falls under the spell that shows her the documentary of australia, which shows only the good sides of australia to sway her decision.
it must be noted that the people who opposed change were not affected by the spell. those who were followed every action agent 5 used, while azfah and jacqueline stand there aghast at the decisions made. perhaps it is a commentary that our wants, our desires subconsciously manifest into our demons that try to lull us into making THAT decision, and that we have to be guarded against it.
at the end of the play, everyone's environment has changed, but their situations remain largely the same. alicia is still being troubled by her mother, but this time over the baby. raymond still doesn't get enough sex from her, now due to her tired state. liyana now has a nice condominium with facilities, but is unable to use them because she has to work extra to cover the bills and is tired out from taking the bus home (she had to sell the car). iris still hasn't had a proper, decent conversation with her husband and daughter. perhaps this play is a cynical take on how change does not lead for the better, that even when one's surrounding changes for the better it does not necessarily mean one's situation turns for the better.
yet, the play ends with a glimmer of hope, with azfah finally becoming able to balance studies and his musical aspirations, as well as making new friends when he previously had none. perhaps change is not that bad after all, albeit only if one rides it instead of trying to force it to happen.
